Bras for Africa

Yesterday, in preparation for International Women's Day, the Hagard main hall was festooned with 40 assorted bras, stretching three quarters of the way round the room. The garland, made up of unwanted or unloved support garments which had been languishing at the back of clothes cupboards, was collected and installed by the women of the local area.

In a scheme organised by Oxfam, these bras will be sent to parts of West Africa, where there are no lingerie factories at present. The women will be able to sell the donated bras, as well as working out a pattern to produce their own, creating a series of sustainable businesses.

As today, 8th March, is International Women's Day, I'd like to send out greetings to women: in Coventry, in the UK and all over the world.

  1. What a wonderful thing for you all to do for International Womens Day, I hope the ladies in Africa enjoy making their own bras in the future
